sound can damage your hearing

Combinations of high enough volumes and duration can cause permament hearing damage. Any type of sound producing product, including my earphones, that can generate a sufficiently high level of sound pressures can damage your hearing permanently. Earphones direct sound directly to the eardrum.

"Noise-induced hearing loss can result from a one-time exposure to a very loud sound, blast, or impulse, or from listening to loud sounds over an extended period." Source: US CDC

and

"Noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period of time may start to damage your hearing. Loud noise above 120 dB can cause immediate harm to your ears"

One published paper concludes that "The presence of noise-induced hearing loss increased from one in five among young adults aged 20–29 years to one in four among adults aged 50–59 years."

When using earphones, you are responsible to reduce the average volume to lowest possible level. Always reduce volume to zero before pushing play.
